If anyone knows us, they know we love gelato! I mean it was the life we lived for 7 years when we ran our gelateria back in the States. So, when we learned that the small village of Pizzo (pronounced like pizza, but with an “o”) is known for gelato, we had to make a special stop there when we were staying in Tropea earlier this summer. We arrived with enough sunlight to take an evening stroll through the quaint, seaside village. The south of Italy has it’s own particular and unique character—it’s laid back, warm, friendly, and has zero fuss about itself. What you see is what you get—along with “the good, the bad, and the ugly.” I admit, that is one thing I kind of love about southern Italy.

We watched an amazing sunset on the edge of a steep cliff overlooking the Gulf of Santa Eufemia. The evening’s dinner was some simple, yet delicious pizza. But, we didn’t eat too much, because we had to save room for the real reason we were in Pizzo in the first place.

We settled on Bar Gelateria Ercole for dessert and we were not disappointed! The owner was super nice and talked with us about life in Italy and the gelato business. He was so sweet to our kiddos, too. The gelato was soooooo good! We chose the classic flavors, like pistachio and chocolate hazelnut. You can never go wrong with those!

Needless to say, we were so happy we stopped in this little fishing village for the evening and highly recommend it for any gelato lover. It was another experience to remember.
