Before I became a serious coffee drinker living in Italy, I was a “tall non-fat white mocha with whip” Starbucks kinda girl. Every now and again—especially during the cold, winter months and around the holidays—I get a craving for a classic white mocha. Growing up, my mom always made the most delicious white hot chocolates. I’ve stolen her recipe and added some amazing Italian caffè to create this DIY white mocha that is sooooo good! It’s the perfect winter treat. Enjoy.
DIY White Mocha
3 cups half & half *
2/3 cup chopped white chocolate (or white chocolate chips)
3-inch cinnamon stick
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
* if you don’t have half & half, you can substitute with 50% milk and 50% cream.
espresso for 4 cups
cinnamon for sprinkling on top
Place the half & half, chopped chocolate, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and vanilla in a medium sauce pan on medium-low heat while stirring constantly. Once the mixture is melted and mixed together turn off the heat and set aside.
Meanwhile, prepare 4 cups of espresso. (I always make our espresso on the stove using a moka like this one here. But, you can prepare your espresso how you prefer.)
After you have poured your espresso into 4 cappuccino-sized cups. (How cute are these cups and on sale from my favorite store—Anthropologie.) Use a frother like this one or this one to make your white mocha mixture thick and foamy. Pour on top of each cup and then top with homemade, fresh whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon.
