We love the Christmas holiday so much. We love the lights, the music, the food, and being with family and those we love. As followers of Jesus, Christmas is so much more for us. It’s a time to slow down and reflect on the fact that Christ, the Lord of all Creation, humbled Himself and came to earth as a man, lived without sin, died on the cross, and defeated death by rising from the dead after three days. Christmas reminds us of God’s loving pursuit of undeserving man. Christ chose to come so that He might seek and save the lost. For our family, this is the beautiful reason we celebrate, because as followers of Christ we can have relationship with Him.
Every season, we make an extra effort to share the significance and importance of Christmas with our kids. Each year our holiday tradition is to have a birthday cake for Jesus and throw a party. It’s so much fun and they love it!
This year, we also got to celebrate with some new friends. We made our classic Christmas Eve Fettuccine—and what meal doesn’t taste better eating it by candlelight! For dessert, I made Holiday Meringues which were sooo good. I’ll post the recipe soon (here it is).
Christmas Day was on Sunday this year so for the kids portion of our church service, our family acted out the nativity scene as we read the bible story. After church, we had several of our friends over for brunch along with some new friends who have recently been attending our church. We listened to Christmas music and played the classic italian christmas game, Tombola—like american bingo.
Christmas dinner was spent over wonderful conversation, eating roast chickens with shallots and apples along with green bean bundles and roasted carrots. We then blew out the candles for Jesus’ birthday cake and ate up!
We pray you all had a very Merry Christmas and that you have a Happy New Year full of God’s greatest blessings.
Buon Natale e Buon Anno Nuovo
