At the end of summer, when family was visiting, we took a day trip to our favorite beach within driving distance of Rome—Sperlonga. It was the most gorgeous day. The kids played in the sand with auntie, took walks along the shore with MèMè searching for sea shells, and we finished the day with dinner under the stars up in the old town.
The town rests upon a hill looking out towards the Mediterranean and is full of beautiful whitewashed buildings and narrow walkways. For dinner, the kids begged for their favorite pasta dish, spaghetti alle vongole—which we recently learned to make at home (will have to post the recipe soon). When your kids start wanting spaghetti with clams over pizza, you realize they might be becoming a bit Italian! After dinner, we took another walk under the beautiful full moon glowing over the sea.
The ocean always brings back reflections of memories. Now that family is back on the other side of the sea, it’s so easy to long for those memories and moments from the past. In the midst of winter, we’re looking back on those summer days shared together with warm hearts full of gratitude.
