Every time a piece of snail mail arrives from across the pond, our whole house gets a bit excited…who’s it from, who’s it for? But, when someONE arrives from across the pond, we go nuts! The excitement of waiting at the airport to see those we love and hold so dear is almost impossible to describe. Is that them? Are they here yet? Oh the joy! In September, my mom and sister were able to come visit and it was such a blessing for us all!
We started off with a birthday bash for my mom by making a Lemon, Ricotta & Almond cake. This recipe is sooo good! One of me and my sister’s favorite things we used to do together is bake and cook—so, we made sure we fit a lot of that in during their stay in Rome.
We mostly did the day-to-day life stuff like running errands, grabbing breakfast at the bar, and taking care of the kiddos with an occasional gelato break. But, we were able to do a few special things as well, like visit one of my favorite markets, Porta Portese (also the largest market in all of Rome). We found some great flea market finds on our adventure there. We took an overnight “girl trip” to Frascati that was an absolute blast! We also took a day trip down the coast to our favorite beach nearby, Sperlonga. More on these adventures in another post.
But, the best part of their trip here was absolutely, without a doubt, seeing their faces, sharing our hearts with one another, and simply being together again. These two women mean the world to me and the Lord has blessed my life beyond measure by having them be a part of my life. I hold on to the many memories we have shared over the years and I relish in the new memories we are blessed to continue to make together.
Showing grandma and auntie where we find our green space living in a cement jungle.
My favorite place to buy fresh produce—this family-run farm has amazing produce and the prices are unbeatable. I love the family feel and they take such good care of their customers.
Another great place to visit when I’m in the area is this butcher shop—they have quality meats of every variety.
An afternoon of shopping in the center.
Porta Portese, Rome’s largest market is always full of adventure and surprisingly good deals.
Gelato and a passeggiata at Ponte Milvio.
Saying arrivederci is always the hardest part. I love these ladies!
