Portofino is one of the most breathtaking, well-known cities along the Riviera Italiana. We’ve read much about this very small, yet luxurious città for years and dreamed of sailing along the coast with unimaginable views. If you love to travel or are a big foodie, a fantastic read is David Shallek’s Mediterranean Summer: A Season on France’s Cote d’Azur and Italy’s Costa Bella. Although we didn’t have the chance to see Portofino from a yacht (like David writes about) or a high-class sailboat, we decided we couldn’t miss out on the chance to make a short detour from our road trip to Provence, France. Unfortunately, it was a holiday here in Italy that day as well as one of the most beautiful days we have had all spring, which meant that traffic was crazy and there was no parking available. What we thought was going to be a relaxing passeggiata and quiet lunch overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, ended up being a one hour drive into the city only to drive back out again. However, it was totally worth it! The views were amazing which is why we couldn’t not post about it. Portofino is definitely a place we would love to visit again—only this time stay a little longer.
