Whenever we head north of Rome, we love to stop in Orvieto—even if we only have a couple of hours (you can check out some of our other posts on Orvieto). It’s the perfect place to stroll the streets and find something delicious to eat. After spending time in Umbria we decided to take the family to Orvieto on our way back into Rome.
Orvieto is such a tranquil town and made it perfect for the kids to run around and play. It was equally perfect for the “big girls”—they enjoyed running around taking pictures and relishing in the moment of being together again. You know we made time for an afternoon caffè & biscotti snack. Don’t worry, the kids did not have real coffees! But, they love their hot milk with cocoa on top.
The town of Orvieto sits on its grand stone throne a thousand feet above the valley floor. At the entrance of the town there is an old walled area with a lovely, small garden that has a small park and the most amazing view of the valley. We’ve enjoyed a picnic in this area before when we have visited. This time, the kids played on the playground and then had fun using their Star Wars lightsabers that Uncle Adam had brought from the States.
It was the perfect place to stop and take a rest from driving as we made our way back into the Eternal City.
