We love Montepulciano! It is such a charming, small, hill town in Toscana. So, of course, we wanted to take Sommer’s family there for a day. The week after New Year’s is still technically the Christmas season here in Italy, so we were fortunate to be able to see all of the holiday decorations and lights all around the town. The day we were there the town was having a Christmas market in the main piazza. We bought cheeses, salumi, and other delicious treats that afternoon at the market. We also ate lunch at our favorite restaurant in Montepulciano—Osteria Acquacheta. It was our first time to taste the famous bistecca Fiorentina…and it was amazing! Truly, it was the best steak ever. They cut the meat right there and then weigh it and show it to you before they cook it on the open fire that you can see from your table. They also served us seasonal foods like warm pecorino cheese and pears, mashed potatoes with white truffles, and the kids ate up pici pasta with ragù. Even though it was ridiculously cold, windy, and rainy that day, we had a fantastic time strolling the wet streets together.
