There is a reason there are countless books and articles written about bella Toscana. No matter what season you visit, there is something magical about it that steals your heart. It is always one of our favorite places to go for a small getaway or even a day trip. But, this time we were introducing the beautiful land of rolling hills to Sommer’s parents. We were able to spend a week staying at a quaint agriturismo, il Poggio, near the small town of Cele sul Rigo. The agriturismo was in the hills with gorgeous views of the valley and was an easy drive to countless charming, little hill towns. In fact, part of what we enjoy the most is driving the less popular roads that wind through farms full of sheep grazing along the hills.
The farm at il Poggio was perfect for our little boys. They loved gawking at the chickens and the countless pigs. We enjoyed the pigs during our stay there as well—but in the delicious forms of prosciutto, pancetta, and salsiccia. The on-site restaurant is where we enjoyed all-inclusive delicious meals for breakfast as well as 4-course nightly dinners. What a treat it was to enjoy such amazing food and not have to cook a thing or hand wash one dish! And the staff there was out of this world. They were truly beyond kind to us during our time there. Another special thing is that we had a nice fireplace in our room. Being late November, it was perfect to cozy up around the fire and savor the opportunity we had to talk for hours.
We were barely into our first day in Tuscany when the land began doing what she does by mesmerizing and melting hearts. Sommer’s parents were in great danger of falling even more in love with the beautiful country of Italia.
