DAY TRIPPERS

During the month of August when Rome is practically empty because Italians travel for holiday, we decided to take a couple of day trips out exploring the small towns nearby with some friends. We took a day driving the countryside with a stop in Bracciano during the morning and then stopping in Vitberbo for a nice lunch in a beautiful piazza.

As we drove from small town to small town, we stumbled across a fantastic flea market where Oliver found a guitar. We had bought him a guitar nearly a year ago but had to sell it when we moved overseas. For months, we’ve been on the lookout for the perfect one—and we found it. He absolutely loves it and is actually quite talented

Another day, we took a drive further north into beautiful Toscana. We wandered the streets, did some shopping in the quaint, little stores, and ate amazing tuscan food in the hill towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino

Any day trip we take, or any outing for that matter, one of our favorite things to do is find a great bar where we can sip delicious cappuccini. The boys absolutely love to get a hot milk and feel like they are enjoying a real coffee. Caffe Poliziano is a great bar that opened in 1868.

We also stopped at our favorite tuscan cheese shop, located just outside of Pienza. We came away with delicious pecorino cheeses as well as a few other small items to cook with.

In the midst of much heartache from losing our friend, these couple of days out in the countryside and visiting small towns were refreshing and just what we needed. We love you, Italia!

  1. I’m so glad you got the opportunity to visit these beautiful places! That guitar is a great find. I’m astonished how much Oliver favors “Constance” in those guitar pics. 🙂
