A MORNING IN TESTACCIO

This classic Roman neighborhood has an equally classic market. It’s been in a new and updated location the last few years, but for us held so much charm and exquisite fruits and veggies of the summer season.

We absolutely adore our little boys and the time we spend together as a family, but having time alone with the love of your life is something that we not only value but feel is very important. Our “dates” are usually spent at home after the kids are in bed—whether it’s cooking a new recipe, studying over a cup of Joe, or watching a late night movie. However, we were blessed with a baby-sitter thanks to a bartering job by Sommer cutting a friend’s hair in exchange for us spending the morning in Testaccio. This classic Roman neighborhood has an equally classic market. It’s been in a new and updated location the last few years, but for us held so much charm and exquisite fruits and veggies of the summer season.

After spending the morning at the market and walking around, we decided to walk to a restaurant near Castel Sant’Angelo. The food at Da Alfredo e Ada is delicious, classic Italian food. The atmosphere is small, cozy, comfortable, and nothing is over the top. When you have been in business since the 1930’s you don’t need to make a fuss over yourself. In fact, they don’t even have a menu. Rather, they just tell you the handful of dishes they are offering that day based off of the seasonal availability of the ingredients. It’s a simple place that serves quality food at a great price and the service is always amazing. It’s the perfect place for a date! We love the quaint, simple style and Sommer might be a little obsessed with the chairs.
