PLAYING IN PERUGIA

Last-minute family vacation in Umbria.

2

On a last minute whim on a Friday night, we decided to book an agriturismo in Umbria for the next day. It was a much needed couple days of rest getting out of the city to breathe fresh, country air. We had an amazing stay at il Molino Della Cagnoletta—only a two-hour drive from Rome—and a beautiful one at that. We would love to stay there again. The property was full of beautiful flowers and gardens, chickens, a small play area for the kids, a pool, and the farmhouse itself was idyllic.

We took a nice walk down the road at sunset and relished in the tranquility of it all. As the sun was lowering, the sky broke open as heavenly rays of sunlight streamed down upon the campagna reminding us of God’s grace upon us to share in that moment.

There is just something so refreshing about taking time out to stop and look around at God’s creation to really see the world around you.

We also had the opportunity to visit a few cities on our adventure. The charming city of Perugia, famous for it’s chocolate, was the perfect place to spend the afternoon walking around, window shopping for handmade hats, and enjoying pizza and gelato for lunch.

Another fun thing we did in Perugia was visit the market. In the center of the old part of the city, a huge antique and flea market was set up. Although we didn’t walk away with anything, we enjoyed looking at all of the little treasures.

The views of the countryside from the top of this city were breathtaking as well.

We also saw a wedding going on while in Perugia, visited the quaint town of Bevagna, as well as the town of Montefalco, and drove around the countryside.

The agriturismo we stayed at had a full kitchen and adorable farm table next to the fireplace. We took full advantage and brought groceries from home and made dinner there as well as enjoyed a leisurely breakfast the next day with the soft morning light coming through the deep windows of the farmhouse. This was our first real vacation away just the four of us and it’s one that we certainly won’t forget.
